TollBit vs Profound: what is the difference?
Profound is an AI visibility platform: it runs prompts against assistants and reports how often you are mentioned and which pages were cited. TollBit is infrastructure: it is the origin AI agents fetch from on your own domain, it shows what those agents read across 10,000+ sites, and it lets you publish pages for them. One tells you how the answers look. The other changes what the answers are built from.
What Profound does well
Profound runs a chosen set of prompts against ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google's AI answers and other assistants on a schedule, then reports mention rate, competitor share and the sources each answer cited. Its citation analysis shows which third-party pages an assistant leaned on when it named you or a rival. It ties AI-referred visits to conversions through GA4, so a marketing team can place AI referrals in the same funnel as every other channel. It has added an agent-analytics view of AI crawler hits on your own domain, and it is moving toward helping teams produce content for the gaps it finds.
For a marketing team that already reports share of voice, this is a legible layer. The prompt list is the unit of account, and the dashboard reads like the SEO tools the team already knows.
Where prompt-based visibility stops
Three limits, and none of them is specific to Profound. They are limits of the category.
- Prompts are hypotheses. A list of 200 prompts is a guess about what people ask. Fetch logs are the record of what agents read when real people asked, including question families nobody thought to track.
- Citations are the tip. On the order of 5 to 15% of what an assistant reads appears as a citation, and advanced agents often cite nothing. A citation report sees the visible fraction of the reading that shaped the answer.
- The output is a report. Every recommendation becomes work on the human website, queued behind the roadmap.
What TollBit does instead
TollBit runs the agent-facing version of your website. A CDN or WAF rule routes identified AI agents to a tollbit.yourbrand.com origin. Humans and Googlebot are never routed, by design. On that rail, three things happen that a visibility tool is not built to do.
- Observed reads, network-wide. Our logs carry 200M+ AI bot fetches a day across 10,000+ sites, so we see which questions agents carry into your category on the pages that answer it, not only the hits on your own domain.
- Publishing to bots. The Agent Site CMS rewrites what agents see on any page and publishes agent-only pages (comparisons, spec sheets, FAQs) into the sitemap bots read, without touching the human page. Same facts, cleaner format, bots only.
- Measurement from the same logs. Reads per page, per agent, before and after you publish. Referrals too, with the caveat that on our own site reads outnumber referrals about 1,000 to 1.
Side by side
| Profound | TollBit | |
|---|---|---|
| Unit of measurement | Mention or citation in a sampled answer | A read: one agent fetch of one page |
| Coverage | Your prompt list | Every fetch across 10,000+ sites |
| Your own site | Analytics on crawler hits, recommendations | The origin agents fetch from, plus a CMS for the bot version |
| Acting on findings | Content and engineering work on the human site | Publish directly to agents, no human-site change |
| Typical owner | Marketing, SEO | Digital, commerce, IT, with marketing editing |
Using both
A brand that already has Profound does not have to choose. Keep the prompt tracking as the scoreboard. Use TollBit to see what agents read, publish the answer, and then watch the mention rate move.
Frequently asked questions
Is TollBit an AI visibility tool? No. TollBit sits one layer below. If agents cannot read or use your site, visibility tooling is measuring a closed door. TollBit makes the site readable and usable first, then measures reads in the same server logs.
Can Profound see what AI agents read on my site? Its agent analytics can see crawler hits on your own domain once connected. It cannot see what agents read on the thousands of other sites that answer your category's questions, which is where most of the reading about you happens.
Does TollBit replace prompt tracking? No. Prompt tracking is a sound qualitative check on 20 to 50 prompts you care about. Reads tell you what to publish. Prompts tell you whether the answer changed afterwards.
