Agent site FAQ for brands
An agent site is the agent-facing version of your website, served on your own domain to identified AI agents and never to humans. These are the twelve questions we are asked most often before one goes live.
Your human site and your SEO
Does an agent site change my human website? No. Humans never reach it. The human site, CMS, CDN and analytics stay exactly as they are. An agent site is a separate rendered surface on a subdomain (tollbit.yourbrand.com) that identified AI agents are routed to by a CDN or WAF rule. If you took it down tomorrow, nothing on the human site would move.
Does it affect SEO? No. Googlebot and Bingbot are never routed to the agent site, by design. They continue to see the human site and index it as before. The rule matches identified AI agents only.
Is this cloaking? No. Cloaking is showing search engines different content from humans to game rankings. An agent site shows AI agents the same facts as the human page, in a cleaner format, and search engines are not in the path at all. The rule we hold to is same facts, cleaner format, bots only. Prices, specifications, claims and availability match the human page.
Who owns the agent-facing page? You do. It lives on your domain, carries your facts, and you approve every change before it is published. TollBit operates the infrastructure that serves it. The citation an AI answer shows is a URL on your own domain, and a human who clicks it lands on the fallback page you chose.
Setup and ownership
How fast is setup? Two IT changes: forward server logs, and point a subdomain with a routing rule. For a team that already administers the CDN, both are usually an afternoon of IT time. From that moment every page on the site has a bot-served version, and the view of which agents read what starts filling in.
Does it work with Akamai, Cloudflare and our bot-management vendor? Yes. The agent site sits behind whatever already fronts your site: Akamai, Cloudflare, Fastly, CloudFront, DataDome, Imperva, HUMAN, WordPress VIP. Those systems detect and route. The agent site is what you route identified AI agents to. Nothing is replaced.
Can marketing edit it without engineering? Yes. The Agent Site CMS shows three views of any page: the human page, what bots get today, and the editable bot version. Marketing or product teams edit the third, review, publish. No ticket, no CMS integration, no deploy. Net-new agent-only pages (comparisons, FAQs, spec sheets) are published the same way and appear in the sitemap bots read.
What if the content is wrong? Fix it in the CMS and republish. Agents re-fetch rather than cache, so a correction reaches retrieval bots on their next fetch and indexers on their next sweep, which varies by platform from hours to weeks. The same-facts rule reduces the risk in the first place: the bot version is derived from the human page, not written separately.
Measurement and data
How do we measure it? In server logs, which is the only place AI visitors exist. Bots do not execute JavaScript, so Google Analytics never records them. The analytics view shows reads by agent, by page and by purpose (training, retrieval, indexing), crawl success versus blocked, which pages agents request that do not exist, and AI referrals (humans arriving from an answer). On tollbit.com, reads run about 1,000 to 1 against referrals, so reads are the number to watch.
What about GDPR? The agent site processes server-log data only: requesting IP, user agent, URL, timestamp and response code. No cookies, no scripts, no human behavioral data, because no human reaches the surface. Your privacy team reviews the data-processing terms the way it would for any CDN or log-analytics vendor.
Agents and citations
What about advanced agents that act, not just read? They get the usable version. Computer-use agents that compare, fill forms and add to cart are served slim HTML with forms and buttons intact and overlays, modals and animations removed. In the public benchmark run with KERNEL on five test stores, that surface completed tasks 24 to 35% faster with zero failed runs across 500 agent-site runs. Personal assistants with logins and payments are the next layer, and the agent site is where authentication and machine payments attach when you are ready.
What happens to citations? AI answers cite agent-only pages like any other page. When a human clicks one, citation fallback sends them to the closest real page on your human site, never a 404. That matters because hallucinated-link rates run from 1.16% (Perplexity) to 4.8% (Anthropic, Q2 2025). Keep in mind that a citation is a small fraction of what an assistant read to form the answer, on the order of 5 to 15%, so measure reads, not just citations.
